DIY: How to Make Paper Flowers (Easy)

DIY: How to Make Paper Flowers (Easy)

Are you tired of bringing in plants to work, only to have them die a few days later? Instead of spending money on countless flowers, make your own! By following our step-by-step tutorial you'll be able to spruce up your office space in no time. For this craft you will need only a few materials: colored craft paper, tape, a ruler, pencil, scissors, and your hands!

Step 1: Make the Stem

To create the stem you're going to start off with a green piece of paper. Cut a square out and save the end piece for later use (the leaves). Start at the corner of the square and very tightly roll the paper until you have a sturdy thin stem. Make sure to tape it closed so it doesn't unravel. After your stem is secure, cut about 2 inches off the bottom and trip the tip on the top.

Step 2: Make the Petals

Take a colorful piece of paper and cut out a section that is 8.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. Then cut thin strands (larger than a centimeter wide) down the whole rectangle, but don't cut all the way through! It should look something like a hula skirt. Then carefully roll each of the paper strands down to mimic flower petal curls. After rolling them all push them up a little bit to "fluff" them out.

Step 3: Attach Petals to Stem

Start by taping one end of the paper curls above the stem and diagonally wrap it around until it covers 1/3 of the stem. Now tape the other end to firmly set the flowers in place. If needed, roll out curls to make them less tight.

Step 4: Creating and Adding the Leaves

Draw the outline of a long leaf on paper and on the bottom of the leaf's stem connect a long rectangle. Cut it out as one shape. After creating a couple, attach the leaves to the stem by wrapping the base rectangle around and taping it in place.

Step 5: Decorate Your Space!

You can put these around the classroom, in your pencil holders, or in fake vases to brighten up any room. If you wanted to make these flowers usable, you could wrap the green stem paper around a pencil or pen instead of rolling them up hollow. This way you have pretty flowers that are also writing utensils!
